ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (KRQE) - The city of Alamogordo has lost $250,000 to scammers.
The city attorney says employees in the finance department were "misled" by what appeared to be official emails from a company.
The emails prompted them to change account information. That led to payments being re-directed to a false vendor.
The city says they're working with the IRS, as well as police, the FBI, and state and local auditors to try and get the money back.
As of right now, Alamogordo says this hasn't affected any city projects or programs.
