State Police say a 12-year-old was killed Wednesday because of icy roads.

The boy, Alexander Madsen of Albuquerque, was a passenger in a car that lost control on Highway 550 south of Cuba on New Year’s Eve.

It slammed into a vehicle going the other direction.

According to a GoFundMe to help with funeral expenses, Madsen was an eighth grader at Desert Ridge Middle School and had seven siblings.

His family was coming back from vacation in Utah when the crash happened.

Police say no one else was seriously hurt in the crash.
