Espanola leaders say it is finally safe to drink water in the area.

Earlier in the week, it was announced that the water system tested positive for nitrate levels above drinking water standards. The test came from water back in November.

Officials have tested water from the last three months and say it’s back to normal and that they’ll continue to make sure the water is safe.

The City of Espanola states the following precautions can be made if residents are still concerned:

  • Do not boil water as excessive boiling makes nitrates more concentrated
  • Infants, women who are pregnant, and those with compromised immune systems should drink bottled water

The City of Espanola is offering bottled water to those who are pregnant or have children under six-months-old at the City of Espanola City Hall and at Women, Infants & Children at 2010 Industrial Park Rd.
