A bill that would automatically register some New Mexicans to vote is on its way to the Senate.

The bill would register eligible voters when they apply for a license or ID card at the MVD. The secretary of state believes the change could expand voter registrations by as much as nearly 400,000 voters.

It does allow citizens to opt out. According to the Santa Fe New Mexican, several House Republicans voiced concern about voter fraud before the House gave it the green light.
