As a major storm crawled across New Mexico Tuesday, some areas saw funnel clouds, drenching rain and damaging hail.
Some of the most powerful images came from KRQE News 13 viewers in southeast New Mexico. Out near Loving, Yadira Lujan captured video of a funnel cloud kicking up dirt on the ground amongst pounding rain.
Near Hagerman south of Loving and Roswell, Shani Pitzer recorded what appeared to be another tornado on the ground.
Sierra Calderon captured images of the storm forming near Malaga on a security camera. A lightning strike can be seen on video, followed by a bright orange flash on the ground near a dark funnel.
A lot of areas saw punishing hail as well. Out near Malaga, Gabriel Morales captured images and video of marble and golf ball-sized hail hitting the ground with force, throwing off huge splashes of water.
Fire crews in Malaga also reported responding to a small fire thought to be on the site of an oil well. It’s unclear the damage that fire caused.
Over larger cities including Roswell and Albuquerque heavy rains and wind hit, but not much more than that.
KRQE News 13 sent a crew on the road to Clines Corners and back but was unable to find any issues the weather was having on the commute.
