People in Albuquerque came together to honor millions of Holocaust victims on Saturday. The Holocaust and Intolerance Museum of New Mexico hosted the event ahead of Yom HaShoah, Israel’s National Holocaust Remembrance Day.
The commemoration included a video featuring local survivors and their stories as well as a small reception.
“When you’re here with survivors, people who have seen their whole families lost, it not only reminds you that it was something very real but it’s still a very raw emotion,” said Victor Raigoza, museum president.
Yom HaShoah has been celebrated since 1953. This year it falls on May 1.
