Valles Caldera National Preserve acquires 40 acres of property

New Mexico

LOS ALAMOS, N.M. (KRQE) – The Valles Caldera is expanding.

The National Park Service recently acquired 40 acres of Sulphur Springs. The area includes volcanic features like sulfuric acid hot springs, steaming mud pots and more. Officials say the move was critical to protecting the geothermal features.

Public access will remain limited while the park service finishes surveying the area.
