State authorities are continuing their investigation of a double fatal crash.

January 1 around 2 a.m., New Mexico State Police investigated a crash involving two vehicles on U.S. 180 north of Deming.

Police discovered a 2001 GMC truck was heading south on U.S. 180 when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 1993 Buick sedan traveling north.

The 61-year-old driver of the Buick was identified as Omar Holguin of Silver City.

The truck driver has not yet been positively identified.

Both drivers were fatally injured and died on scene.

A 55-year-old female passenger who had been riding in the Buick was airlifted with injuries.

While the crash is still under investigation, seatbelts do now appear to have been correctly used.

It is unknown if alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.
