A public lands package establishing new protected wilderness areas in New Mexico has been signed into law.

“The John D. Dingell Conservation, Management and Recreation Act” creates more than a million new acres of wilderness across the U.S., including within the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks and Rio Grande Del Norte National Monuments.

It also permanently establishes the Land and Water Conservation Fund, a move senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich have championed. They say it will ensure continued investments in public lands and open spaces, as well as clean drinking water projects and neighborhood parks.
