Texas man killed in Lea County car crash

HOBBS, N.M. (KRQE) - One person is dead after a crash that happened at the intersection of U.S. 62/180 and State Road 176, west of Hobbs.

The crash happened on April 11, 2019. According to New Mexico State Police, a 2018 Ford pick-up driven by 25-year-old Terrance Avery Yellets of Corpus Christi, Texas was traveling west on State Road 176 approaching the intersection of U.S. 62/180.

For unknown reasons, the Ford Yellets was in did not stop at the intersection and was struck by a 2018 Ford pick-up that was traveling east on U.S. 62/180.

According to NMSP, after the collision the truck Yellets was driving was hit again by a 2017 White International Commercial Motor Vehicle that was traveling west on U.S. 62/180.

The Office of the Medical Investigator pronounced Yellets deceased on scene. The driver of the CMV and other Ford pick-up sustained non-life threatening injuries.

NMSP believe alcohol is not a factor in the crash and seatbelts appear to have been used properly by all drivers. The names of the drivers of the other Ford pick-up and CMV will not be released due to no charges being filed.

No other information has been released at this time.
