A Democrat-backed tax overhaul passed in the state House Friday night on a party-line vote. It now heads to the Senate as the legislative session creeps to a close.
House Bill 6 is being touted as a way to invest more money in public education and lessen the state’s reliance on oil and gas. However, Republicans see it as a tax increase against hard-working New Mexicans.
The bill now heads to the Senate before it could head up to Governor Lujan Grisham’s desk.
