A Taos County deputy who was once honored for saving a man’s life has now been convicted for beating a man he found in his home with his wife.
Mauro Rosales was originally accused of attacking both his wife and the other man when he came home in January to find them watching a movie together.
A jury found Rosales not guilty of attacking his wife, but convicted him of misdemeanor battery on the man.
KRQE News 13 is waiting to hear whether Rosales is still employed with the sheriff’s office, but the Taos News reports he has been on administrative leave since the charges were filed.
He’ll be sentenced later this month.
Rosales made the news back in 2015, when he was honored for saving an 18-year-old threatening to jump from the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge.
