Supreme Court to reconsider changes to election dates

New Mexico

(KRQE)- The New Mexico Supreme Court has agreed to hear objections to a new law that would stagger local election dates.

The changes recently approved by the governor would cut short or lengthen some terms by two years including district attorneys. However, district attorneys across the state say their elections should remain on the presidential cycle unless a constitutional amendment is approved by the legislature and a statewide vote.

Arguments will be heard this fall.
