State Police say a man shot and killed by officers was armed.

The shooting happened last week in Clovis, just after midnight on the Prince Street Overpass near Brady Avenue.

Clovis Police tried to stop 22-year-old Aaron Chavez in a stolen car but they say he ditched the car and took off running.

Officers say while chasing him, Chavez reached inside his pocket and pulled out what they thought was a knife.

Officers felt threatened and shot him.

Investigators say Chavez was found with a chainsaw blade that had been fashioned into a weapon.
