The New Mexico State Police are investigating a fatal rollover crash in Luna County.
The crash happened Friday, March 8 on Eighth Street and Coyote Road. According to NMSP, the initial investigation indicated that a 41-year-old woman, driving a 2004 Mitsubishi Galant, was heading south on Eighth Street.
Police are still investigating what caused the Mitsubishi to leave the roadway and roll. The passenger, 31-year-old Tammy Plant of Deming, was ejected from the vehicle. Plant sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.
The driver was airlifted to an area hospital with unknown injuries. According to NMSP, excessive speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash. Alcohol is not believed to be involved and seatbelts appear to have been properly utilized.
No other information has been released at this time, the crash remains under investigation.
