State legislators pre-file ahead of session

New Mexico’s 30-day legislative session will begin on January 15, and lawmakers are already beginning to pre-file legislation both in the House and in the Senate.

House Democrats will go in the legislative session with a 46 to 24 majority over Republicans.

Democrats also outnumber Republicans 26 to 16 in the Senate, and they will hold the governor’s seat.

Topics the state lawmakers are expected to focus on include raising the minimum wage, increasing funding for education, gun control and legalizing marijuana.
