State Auditor: Counterfeit money spotted in southern New Mexico

New Mexico

State Auditor Brian Colon is warning people in southern New Mexico of counterfeit money.

Colon’s office says the fake money is printed on low-quality paper and appears to have Chinese lettering. The state auditor’s office says the fake bills have been spotted in Alamogordo in places like dollar stores, restaurants and gas stations.

The counterfeit bills were in $5, $10 and $20 denominations and may also be printed with duplicate serial numbers. Larger bills in $50 and $100 denominations were also discovered and have a yellow hue to their paper.

If you find counterfeit bills, you’re asked to call police.
