Spaceport seeks additional funding

New Mexico

The New Mexico Spaceport is asking lawmakers to increase its budget next year. 

The rocket-launching facility is asking for a 72 percent increase from the state’s general fund. That totals just over $1.5 million. 

Virgin Galactic is the lead tenant at the Spaceport. It has plans to carry tourists into outer space from southern New Mexico, but that project has seen a series of setbacks.
