Bernalillo County is ready to play ball at its new softball fields in the South Valley.
The fields at Tom Tenorio Park near Coors and Arenal got a big facelift after neighbors complained that softballs were ending up in their yards behind one of the fields.
County commissioners say by revamping the fields, neighbors’ needs are met and people still get to use the park.
“These will pull people from other parts of the city to the west side so we’re very excited about being able to do that,” said Bernalillo County commissioner Steven Michael Quezada.
County commissioners were unable to confirm the exact cost of the new fields.
Completion of the new fields coincides with the annual Jimmy Nieto softball tournament which starts Friday, June 8.
