The New Mexico Human Services Department is encouraging all eligible SNAP recipients who are supposed to receive January benefits to submit their renewal form soon in order to receive February’s benefits.
The SNAP program has not received funds beyond January 31 as a result of the government shutdown.
The department, trying to minimize the shutdown’s impact, has participated in a U.S. Department of Agriculture option allowing February benefits to be issued early, as in on or before January 20.
The HSD is asking those relying on SNAP to submit their renewal form before January 15.
HSD notes that an early February benefit is not a double payment for January.
There are several ways to renew SNAP benefits:
- drop off form at an Income Support Division office (click here for locations)
- fax form to 1-855-804-8960
- submit form online here.
