Silver City Walmart reopens after reports of shots fired

SILVER CITY, N.M. (KRQE) – The Silver City Walmart was put on lockdown after reports of a possible shooting, but at this point, police have found no evidence of that.

Police say employees heard a “pop” that sounded like a gunshot and called police Police Chief Fred Portillo says they do have a male in custody, but the only charge right now is shoplifting.

Police say they don’t have any evidence of a shooting, such as bullet casings or damage to property. Although some people took to social media, claiming it was an active shooter situation and causing panic.
