A famous northern New Mexico ranch is closed while crews battle a wildfire in the Carson National Forest.
The Sardinas Canyon Fire has forced the closure of D.H. Lawrence Ranch near San Cristobal, where the early 20th Century novelist spent summers in the 1920s.
There were other notable visitors as well, including author Willa Cather and artist Georgia O’Keefe.
Lawrence’s wife left the property to the University of New Mexico in her will.
The ranch and most of the Carson National Forest remain closed until further notice.
