New Mexico students gathered at the Roundhouse to raise awareness about gun violence.
Students from Santa Fe Schools unveiled a mural and held a news conference inside the Capitol rotunda Friday, voicing their concerns about school safety issues like bullying and guns.
They also staged a “die in” wearing t-shirts displaying the names of children who have been killed in school shootings.
“I think by silent protest we will get our point across. It shows that our lives can be lost just like that, we can be taken away from the world, anyone’s daughter, son, husband, wife…all of that can be taken away because of gun violence,” sophomore Samantha Quintana said.
The event was organized by the school district’s “WAVE” program, which stands for “Wellness Ambassadors to Voice and Empower.”
