The city of Santa Fe has reached a settlement with the family of a man shot and killed by police.

Santa Fe Police Officer Jeremy Bisagna shot and killed Anthony Benavidez back in 2017.

Police say Benavidez had just broken into his old apartment, stabbed a social worker and launched improvised explosives at officers.

Benavidez’s family filed a wrongful death lawsuit following the shooting, claiming SFPD had failed to train its officers in crisis intervention.

It was also revealed that Benavidez had schizophrenia.

The family’s attorney says the city of Santa Fe and the family have agreed on a $400,000 settlement.
