Santa Fe Police are calling an amber alert a “telephone chain mistake.”

The alert was issued for 1-year-old Julian Martinez and his 23-year-old mother, Michelle Martinez, Sunday night and then canceled about an hour later.

According to a police report, Martinez’s mom called 911 Sunday morning after she was told Michelle had been robbed by a man and she “got what she deserved.”

After several interviews, police learned that was not the case and that the story had grown as it went from person to person.

The amber alert was canceled after Michelle and her son returned to her mom’s house unharmed.

Police say no arrests have been made.
