Santa Fe city leaders are tapping the brakes on electric scooter rentals.
Scooter-sharing company “Bird” reached out to the city of last year expressing interest in opening up shop there. However, there have been problems in other cities where scooters have created a nuisance and a safety hazard.
Tuesday night, the city’s public safety committee recommended a temporary ban on the use of electric scooters on public streets and sidewalks.
Councilor Carol Romero-Wirth, who spearheaded Tuesday night’s proposal, says scooters might be a good idea, but officials need more time to evaluate concerns.
