The City of Santa Fe is hoping more money will help it keep some of its officers.

According to The Santa Fe New Mexican, Mayor Alan Webber has offered every SFPD officer a $4,700 retention bonus for staying with the city for six months.

The city says it found $600,000 in the city’s budget for the bonuses.

However, the police union has previously called the deal ‘a slap in the face.’

Currently, starting pay for Santa Fe Police officers stands at $19 an hour.

APD currently offers $29 an hour to start.
