Rio Rancho Police investigating shooting death of 2-year-old

RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – The Rio Rancho Police Department is investigating after a 2-year-old child was shot and killed on Wednesday, Dec. 8. RRPD reports that at 8:37 a.m. officers responded to a call of a shooting in the Rio Rancho neighborhood Enchanted Hills.

Officers at the scene discovered a two-year-old child with a gunshot wound and despite life-saving measures of officers and Rio Rancho Fire Rescue paramedics, the child died due to their injuries. Authorities report the incident involved the family of a Santa Fe Police Department officer. RRPD said there is no indication that the officer’s duty weapon was involved.

Santa Fe Police confirm the incident involved one of their officers but have not released any more details.
