A ceremony in Santa Fe honored those who have been injured or died while serving their country.

Purple Heart recipients and their families came together at the Santa Fe Veterans Memorial Saturday.

The Purple Heart is a longtime awarded combat decoration.

Among those who attended was the mother of the 1991 La Cueva graduate Doug Zembiec, who died during a raid in IRAQ in 2007.

Zembiec’s mother helped lay the wreath for the ceremony.
