Santa Fe police are investigating an early morning stabbing near downtown, and the suspect has been accused of a similar act before.

Police say at about 2:30 Friday morning, a woman showed up at Hotel St. Francis asking for help after being stabbed multiple times.

Police determined the crime happened a few blocks away near Galisteo and DeVargas Street.

Police found the suspect still in the area. They identify him as 19-year-old Matthew Culley.

Culley was arrested back in October for another stabbing in downtown of an employee at the Five and Dime.

That employee said it happened after he confronted Culley about shoplifting.

As for the latest victim, she is expected to recover.
