Santa Fe Police say a woman who may have been pregnant was murdered.

Police say they were called out to a Motel 6 on Cerrillos Road Saturday, after receiving a call from a man named Jose Calabaza who said his girlfriend was bleeding and unconscious.

When officers arrived on the scene they found 24-year-old Miranda Tenorio dead in one of the hotel’s rooms. Authorities say detectives determined that Tenorio had been severely beaten and had multiple injuries.

Thirty-four-year-old Jose Calabaza was arrested and has been charged with an open count of murder. Santa Fe Police state that during their interview with Calabaza, he informed detectives that Tenorio was pregnant, but officers say they had no other information to corroborate his claim.

Authorities say detectives are now awaiting autopsy results to confirm that information. Court records show Calabaza has a record of domestic violence, child abuse, DWI, and theft.

No other information has been released, the investigation is ongoing.
