A New Mexico Game and Fish officer came upon a rare sight recently.

Officer Tyler Twichell saw a “piebald” deer.

He took a picture near Tierra Amarilla while on patrol.

“Piebald” means having two patches of color and is a result of a rare genetic defect.

Unlike the albino deer, which has pink eyes, a pink nose and pinkish hooves, piebald deer have normal brown pigment.
