Moose are a very rare sight in New Mexico. This is only the third moose sighting reported to Game and Fish in the last two decades.
The last one was near Chama. Before that, two more were spotted back in 2004.
Moose were introduced in southern Colorado in the 1990s and have occasionally wandered into New Mexico, but not very often.
They’re located mostly in the northern part of the U.S., but their population in Colorado has really boomed.
