The only nursing home in all of Rio Arriba County is shutting down for good.
The Espanola Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center will permanently close its doors December 31.
The center’s parent company filed for bankruptcy back in 2017, leaving the facility without an operator.
According to The Santa Fe New Mexican, the company is facing more than 150 lawsuits over its care for residents in New Mexico.
The state Department of Health has approved the closure and is working with the center to relocate some 70 residents who still live there.
A public meeting to discuss the loss of the center will be held Friday.
