Details of an officer-involved shooting that took place earlier this month in Alamogordo have been released.
On Oct.14, 2018, officers from the Alamogordo Department of Public Safety were dispatched to an address on 702 South Florida Avenue in reference to a shots-fired call.
New Mexico State officials and Otero County deputies responded to the scene as well.
Upon arrival, officers identified that the suspect, 55-year-old Gregory Tilly had shot out the windows of his mobile home.
Police say Tilly refused to leave his residence and during a negotiation, Tilly exited his residence holding a shotgun.
Authorities then say that’s when Tilly pointed his gun at State Police Officer Fabian Picazo.
After firing one round, police say Officer Picazo struck Tilly and then began to render aid.
Tilly later died from his injuries at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center.
Officer Picazo, an officer with NMSP for three years, was placed on standard leave.
The investigation is ongoing.
