CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting at Carlsbad Caverns National Park.
The National Park Service says one of its law enforcement officers was involved in the shooting that took place on Saturday, March 21 around 5:15 p.m. It’s unclear what led up to it, but NPS says the officer is okay.
Right now, the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office and the National Park Service’s Officer Involved Shooting Team are investigating. Following the investigation, it will be submitted to the District of New Mexico’s United States Attorney’s Office.
The NPS officer that was involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave while the investigations take place. The park will remain accessible in a limited capacity.
