New Mexico State Police are mourning the loss of Sergeant Thomas Vitale who suddenly passed after experiencing a medical incident while on duty.

Sergeant Vitale was assigned to District 12 in Deming, New Mexico and served with NMSP for 18 years.

Vitale, who was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, is survived by his wife and three kids.

New Mexico State Police Chief Pete Kassetas issued the following statement regarding Sgt. Vitale.

“This tragic incident leaves us mourning the life of an extraordinary man. While we mourn the passing of Sgt. Vitale, we are blessed to have known him. Sgt Vitale was an example of what every State Police officer strives to be,” stated Chief Kassetas.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
