A New Mexico native has made a name for herself in the world of cyclocross.
Cyclocross consists on many short laps around a 2-mile course featuring pavement, mud, grass and obstacles.
Saturday, Sarah Sturm, who now lives in Durango, got an early lead and held it to win the Women’s Single Speed Race in Louisville, Kentucky.
She points to her experience in mountain biking for her success.
“My boyfriend is a big enduro racer so I get dragged along to these terrifying races and it paid off,” says Sturm. “I think just like staying super calm looking ahead and no breaking.”
Strum also raced Sunday in the Women’s Elite Race. She came in eighth place out of 46.
