A former U.S. Serviceman and Santa Fe living treasure is being held without bond in an Irish prison.

Since retiring as Marine Corp Captain in 1966, Ken Mayers has worked as a peace activist, but that peaceful protest got him thrown in jail.

The 82-year-old is charged with causing $2,800 in damage to the Shannon Airport on St. Patrick’s Day. He and five members of “Veterans for Peace” were protesting the airport’s policy of allowing U.S. Military planes to stop there en route to the Middle East.

The National Veterans for Peace Association is now accepting donations for his legal defense.
