New Mexico national parks, monuments announce reopening

New Mexico

Multiple national parks will resume operations following a temporary resolution to the government shutdown.

Bandelier National Monument and the Valles Caldera National Preserve will reopen next week.

Bandelier will reopen Jan. 30 and will resume normal operations. Bandelier said staff will be busy cleaning the snow and ice that has collected on the trails since the shutdown.

The Valles Caldera will open Sunday, Jan. 27, continuing its winter hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In a news release, officials said that while the road to the entrance station has been cleared, visitors should be cautious of road conditions.

Additionally, visitors are asked to be careful on the ungroomed trails and to wear appropriate clothing.

White Sands National Monument reopened Saturday and normal operations have resumed at Carlsbad Caverns as well.
