A New Mexico veteran has donated one of his most prized possessions to the Smithsonian.
Lieutenant Bill Cody Ayon played a large pow wow drum with fellow Native American soldiers during his tour in Iraq.
After returning in 2010, Ayon attended school at Western New Mexico University. For years, he played the drums for fellow students.
Now, Ayon is donating that drum to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian.
