A lawyer will stay suspended for filing a lawsuit on behalf of someone who was never involved in the incident in question.
Attorney Eric Dixon filed a lawsuit claiming an inmate was injured in a pepper-spraying incident at the Roosevelt County Jail, when in fact she was part of a totally separate case.
When the error came to light, the state disciplinary board says Dixon tried to cover up his mistakes by lying about it.
They went on to say his conduct “erodes the foundation of our legal system.”
If Dixon wants to practice law again, he’ll have to take ethics classes and wait nine months before applying for reinstatement.
