A Santa Fe wood sculptor has been chosen for a prestigious art fellowship.

Each year, Chicago-based nonprofit United States Artists selects 45 people to recognize as fellows.

This year, New Mexico’s own Arthur Lopez was chosen.

The Santero was granted $50,000 to spend as he pleases.

The nonprofit said he was chosen for his attention to detail and effort to bring contemporary style to a long-standing tradition.
