Metro court judges in Albuquerque took their oaths Thursday.
They have jurisdiction over cases like landlord-tenant rights, traffic violations, and preliminary felony hearings across Bernalillo County.
Each metro court judge has been an attorney for at least three years.
The judges say it is an honor to serve.
“It’s our pleasure to actually be in the role where not only are you able to help other people, but make sure the community is safe by deterring by making sure rehabilitation is available to people who need it,” said Chief Judge Sandra Engel.
Metro court also features 11 specialty courts that provide rehabilitative programs for offenders with addictions.
