A Massachusetts mayor set out on a cross-country journey after learning his dog’s time was limited, and even made a stop in New Mexico.

The mayor of Attleboro, Massachusetts, Paul Heroux, and his 10-year-old Japanese wolfdog, Mura, are very close and are staples of their community.

Heroux received Mura from a breeder when she was only eight weeks old.

So, when Mura was diagnosed with terminal cancer in September, Heroux set out on a journey that covered 24 states to see where Mura was born on Vancouver Island.

The pair took photos while on their trip, covering 8,450 miles in only 12 days.

They made stops at the Grand Canyon, Golden Gate Bridge, Mount Rushmore and even in New Mexico.

Heroux and Mura eventually made it to Vancouver Island.
