In the race for Bernalillo County Sheriff, unofficial results show that incumbent Manny Gonzales is securing another term beating Republican Lou Golson by 9 percent.
At the center of this race was the issue of body lapel cams for BCSO deputies, something Gonzales has opposed.
“Let’s get to what matters first, let’s do what matters first, let’s keep people safe. You can’t keep people safe with a body-worn camera, there’s no proof and I’m open,” said Gonzales.
Lawsuits have been filed against Gonzales accusing him of creating a culture of excessive use-of-force cases in the department and deadly deputy-involved shootings within the first year.
This is his fourth term.
