Man shot dead after pointing gun at Valencia County deputies

New Mexico

State Police say a Valencia County man pointed a gun at deputies before they opened fire and killed him.

Deputies were called out to a home on Meadowlake Road just after midnight. State Police say the suspect, 37-year-old Isaac Pineda, had stolen a gun and threatened to harm his own family.

Pineda let the family leave the house, but State Police say he came out with his rifle drawn. Deputies then shot Pineda.

State Police say Pineda has a violent criminal history, including kidnapping, domestic battery and fleeing from police. No deputies were injured.
