Local school celebrates Native American traditions at annual Feast Day

New Mexico News

A local Native American school invited the public to help them celebrate Feast Day.

NACA, the Native American Community Academy, hosted its annual celebration for about 1,500 people.

Feast Day starts with a ceremony at sunrise at the school’s campus near the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center and ends with a potluck meal prepared entirely by volunteers.

“Everyone comes together as a community to embrace their identity and sort of coming together and growing as a whole school community,” says Emily Jaramillo of the Native American Community Academy.

Students and staff wore traditional clothing, sang songs and held Native American dances.
