A new land purchase could bolster solar power in Clovis.

According to the Eastern New Mexico News, the Clovis City Commission has voted unanimously to spend more than $1 million on 633 acres.

The plot sits just west of Cannon Air Force Base and will be used as an industrial park for solar energy and other eligible economic projects.

The Clovis mayor says having a solar farm so close to the base will help the facility reach its goal of using at least 25 percent solar energy by 2025.
