The former Torrance County Sheriff turned judge accused of embezzlement has been temporarily suspended.
Heath White was hit with seven charges last week after allegedly embezzling more than $20,000 during his time as sheriff.
Investigators also accused him of keeping items like cameras and surveillance equipment. If convicted, he faces up to 17 years in prison.
Friday, the New Mexico Supreme Court granted the Judicial Standards Commission’s request to temporarily suspend the magistrate judge without pay.
